About

Kieran K. Meadows blogs at NotesandBeats.com about politics, media, journalism, the criminal justice system, history, race & (anti-)racism, social justice, technology, and occasionally music. He enjoys looking for the intersections or common threads that connect these topics. There are always connections to be made in this world, and we are better informed humans and members of a community or society when these connections are made. Along with following bigger stories (and looking for an angle that has not been given ample coverage), he also has a keen interest in highlighting stories that deserve more attention than they are receiving.

He has worked with, among others, ABC News, WNYC Radio, the daily TV/radio news program Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman, Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV), Free Speech Radio News, and Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting. He has been a Carnegie Corporation Fellow and a Punch Sulzberger Fellow. He holds a M.A. in Journalism from the brand new CUNY Graduate School of Journalism (therefore this site has in the past — and will in the future — often focus attention on local New York City news). He holds a B.A. in Film Studies and in African American Studies from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT.

Besides being a news junkie who is devoted to the journalism profession, he also has an intense passion for music. He is a multi-instrumentalist musician (but primarily a drummer) and producer. This is where “Notes and Beats” comes from — NOTES and BEATS are each essential elements of both journalism and music.
